Infrastructure
Shared infrastructure is the physical plant that carries the Velocity Interoperability Network between its members. It is held by the Interior Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network on behalf of all members and falls into the classes below. A register of individual sites and routes will be published as it is compiled.
- Relay sites
- Staffed and unstaffed sites that carry Network traffic between member organizations. Each relay site is held by the Department and operated to a common service standard.
- Exchange points
- Neutral locations at which members connect their own networks to one another. Members connect on equal terms under a published exchange agreement.
- Data halls
- Shared halls in which members may house equipment. Space, power and cooling are allocated by the Department in fixed units and reviewed annually.
- Cabling
- Ducts, fibre and copper routes between relay sites, exchange points and data halls. Cabling is owned by the Department and leased to members by the route.
Obligations of members
- Register every connection to shared infrastructure with the Department before use.
- Operate equipment housed in shared infrastructure to the Network interoperability standards.
- Report faults and planned works affecting shared infrastructure to the Department without delay.
- Allow the Department access for inspection and maintenance at reasonable notice.
